Hi!
My name is Helga and as you might have guessed I have a
German and Austrian background. During
the 50’s, my parents emigrated from Europe to hopefully earn a little money in
Canada and return home when job opportunities improved. As it turned out they
met in Toronto, got married and never moved back. With several siblings
emigrating with them, we grew up surrounded by cousins, aunts and uncles. We had
many get togethers with lots of food, cake and more cake. Did I mention we had
a lot of cake. Being surrounded by accomplished bakers, of course rubs off a
little (at least the desire to eat cake anyway). I would like to think some skills have been
passed on through the genes. I love
baking and cooking and seeing my appreciative family’s face when a favourite meal
or dessert is placed in front of them. My
goal this year is to preserve some of these memories with a collection of
traditional recipes that I grew up with. That being said, there are many
recipes I still need to try and some to discover. Strudelnoodle will
hopefully bring together some old and new recipes for friends, family and
anyone else who enjoys traditional European
cooking.
Thanks for stopping by and feel free to let me know what you
think.
p.s. The inspiration for this blog comes from (of course) my
mom’s famous apple strudel. Cheers!
This picture was taken at a restaurant near the highest
mountain in Austria called the Grossglockener, where incidentally I had one of
the best apple strudels ever.
